Historic leader of the Albanian Democrats and former Albanian Premier Sali Berisha said the Open Balkans project represent a threat to the country’s farmers and his party and allies will consider it void once they come to power. Berisha was speaking in an electoral with farmers in Lushnja where he promised bigger grants and budget for the agriculture sector.

“We will return strongly to the grants system. I guarantee you at least the agriculture budget will be above the average budget of the region. Today we have a budget half that of Kosovo and other neighbor countries”, Berisha said.

“Every expenditure and purchase tax will be refunded. If Albania stays in the project of EU integration we will make the first steps to prepare you for the union and that is very necessary. Also, I guarantee you we will reject the Open Balkans because that initiative is very dangerous for our farmers because they must compete with farmers that take very big subsidies from the Serbian government”, said Berisha.
