Former Democratic Party chairman Lulzim Basha was questioned for several hours on Thursday by Belgian prosecutors in Tirana in relation with the investigative file Toyota Yaris.

After a long Q&A session, Basha spoke to media reporters while his office delivered fragments from his declarations to the Belgian prosecutors.

The truth is his office delivered what they deemed as necessary and not what Basha actually said, declaring that the Special Structure against Corruption (SPAK) and the National Bureau of Investigation (BKH) are doing a very good job, and that he declared his full support to justice, after voting in favor of the extension of the mandates of vetting bodies, joining votes with Premier Edi Rama’s Socialist majority.

“The honest officials of SPAK and BKH have the full support of the Democratic Party to go forward with the investigation of all the case under their jurisdiction, that is the reason why they were created, the reason why are paid by the Albanian taxpayers. They are subordinate to no one but the Albanian law and taxpayers and I repeat my full support in their fierce fight against the organized crime, which has become such due to the collusion of the government and corrupt politicians with the organized crime. I am open to every question”, was Basha’s statement to the Belgian prosecutors that was not included in the official press release.
